Our story began in Toronto in 1996, when our father, a first-generation immigrant, started working in a supermarket as a regular employee. Those early days were shaped by long hours, hard work, and a firsthand understanding of what it takes to serve a community well.

In December 2006, our father took a leap and opened our family’s first store in the northwest end of Toronto. Those early years demanded everything. Long days often meant time away from home, and as children, we remember what it felt like to grow up around that sacrifice. Sometimes we'd go days without seeing our parents.

Building on that legacy, we—Jian and John—decided to open our very first store: JH Supermarket. Our childhood experiences didn’t just shape our business; they shaped the values behind it. Today, as second-generation immigrants and business owners, we are committed to building something different: a place where people are treated with respect, where hard work is recognized, and where community comes first.

We believe in treating others the way we would want to be treated. That applies to our customers, our suppliers, and especially our team. It also guides what we put on our shelves. At JH Supermarket, we strive to offer quality food at fair, honest prices that families can rely on every day. We will never engage in price-gouging or price fixing.

As a proudly Canadian supermarket, we celebrate the diversity of our community. Quality products, everyday essentials, and foods from many cultures come together so every household can find something familiar.
